Boreal Owl

Boreal Owl (Aegolius funereus) - a very small owl. Alternate names include Tengmalm's Owl or Richardson's Owl. It is a nocturnal owl whose diet consists primarily of voles and small birds. In North America the subspecies is Aegolius funereus richardsoni, which usually "irrupts" every 4 years or so to more southern latitudes.
